About St. John's Committees |
|||||||||
| Fellowship Committee | |||||||||
| The goal of the Fellowship Committee is to promote fellowship and caring among all parishioners. This is accomplished through a variety of social events and fundraisers throughout the year. This committee is also responsible for the Coffee Hour on Sundays. | |||||||||
| Membership Committee | |||||||||
| The goal of the Membership Committee is to share the joy of our Christian community, and to enhance the spiritual growth and ministry opportunities available at St. John's. This ministry works with the Rector and Vestry to design programs to attract, welcome and incorporate new members into the Saint John's family, and represents an essential aspect to the long-term goal for continued growth and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. | |||||||||
| Nominating Committee | |||||||||
| This Vestry ad hoc committee ensures that the congregation has a working plan for discovering, inviting, nominating and supporting persons for leadership positions within our church community. The primary work for this committee is done September through December in preparation for the Annual Meeting in January. Responsibilities of the committee members are to list the leadership positions established within the congregation, work cooperatively with these positions and other groups or individuals in preparing job descriptions, to become familiar with as many persons in the congregation as possible, to match potential leaders with specific leadership positions, to invite persons to serve in the leadership positions, and to plan, conduct and oversee the election at each Annual Meeting. | |||||||||
| Outreach Committee | |||||||||
| The Outreach Committee seeks to facilitate individual and collective acts of benevolence by the congregation. The goal of the Outreach Committee is to provide opportunities for parishioners to demonstrate Christ's love by being of service to those in need in the community at large through a variety of charitable programs. Outreach events include a number of ongoing activities as well as special projects. Examples include the Episcopal Charities Campaign, Chimney Hill Housing for the Elderly, Saint Elizabeth's Home, the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, Operation GUARDian, Highlands Child Care Center, Station Family Fund, disaster relief donations, and the Happy Basket and Giving Tree Programs. | |||||||||
| Parish Development Committee | |||||||||
| The Parish Development Committee oversees those matters pertaining to the growth of Saint John's within the context of its mission and goals, and meeting the needs of its members; offers and instills ideas which are fresh, original and productive; seeks to involve people, internally and externally, who can create and develop those ideas; and to empower all to explore new heights, create bold visions, and dream new dreams so that they may be the very best they can be. Of necessity, the committee works closely with the Vestry officers and other standing committees to help ensure that programs, ministries, physical plant, etc. are able to support the needs and requirements associated with actual and projected congregational growth. Much of their work is "visionary" in nature, designed to identify future needs and to incorporate these into the overall strategy, vision, and mission of Saint John's. Ultimately, it offers an opportunity to work together to create a renewed experience of belonging and participation in the parish. | |||||||||

It is also concerned with the financial aspects of and resource allocation for these activities, including fund-raising for special purposes. The committee also manages the church's rental properties. | |||||||||
| Stewardship and Finance Committee | |||||||||
| This committee is charged with enabling parishioners to move to a deeper and more profound understanding of the unique responsibility of being faithful Christian stewards of the time, talents and treasure with which God has blessed each of us. The goal of the Stewardship and Finance Committee is to create and implement a strategy that generates the annual operating funds necessary to fulfill the long-range plan of the congregation and to assure the financial stability of St. John's Church. The Committee also provides oversight and guidance to the Parish Treasurer regarding annual and proposed budget plans, and conducts scheduled audits of church finances. Other responsibilities include the development of annual fundraising challenges and a work plan consistent with goals of the church, implementation of a plan to invite new members to pledge throughout the year, and the conduct of an Every Member Canvas pledge solicitation.
